Measuring our impact... with stars

Like so many in our sector, one of the biggest challenges Aviva faces is quantifying the impact of our work.

Manipulating Mind Games – Ashley’s story

Pregnant and terrified by the first violent act, I fled, seeking a better future with my unborn child. I leaned on familiar shoulders, my mother and an old friend, Chris, who offered a seemingly stable path. We married, our family grew, but a subtle darkness took root as his "care" morphed into insidious control, isolating me and eroding my reality. When I finally broke free, the support of Aviva became my anchor and a safe harbour for my children.

Madison’s Story – a voice for survivors of abuse

Misunderstood and labelled a problem child, Madison eventually disclosed the abuse at seventeen, leading to family estrangement but ultimately her stepfather's conviction. This is her story of survival, the long journey of healing, and her powerful decision to speak out for other survivors.

From Billboards to Barstools: Aviva takes the upstander message to the streets

For the past three years during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), Aviva's "Asking for it... to stop" campaign has encouraged Kiwis to become upstanders against sexual violence by actively intervening in harmful situations, contrasting with passive bystanders.

'Chris-maths' - doing the numbers on Christmas

We all know family violence doesn’t stop just because it’s Christmas, nor does it take a holiday in January. Our specialist kaimahi (support workers) continue their mahi throughout the year through one-on-one support and group education programmes designed to assess and support safety, create change, and empower the well-being of everyone affected by violence.
